Kane County police departments often share news releases about tobacco or alcohol compliance checks, and there are almost always at least one retailer that’s found in violation of the law. So it’s only fair to post the news release that shows retailers doing exactly what they’re supposed to do.

Tobacco retailers in Elburn were inspected for the third of three rounds of compliance checks to be conducted on all tobacco retailers within the community. A total of six tobacco retailers were inspected, and none were found to be in violation of the law by selling tobacco to a minor, the village of Elburn reports.

The compliance checks are performed to determine if local tobacco retailers are complying with state of Illinois and village of Elburn minimum-age tobacco laws which prohibit the sale of tobacco to persons under the age of 18.

With the help from a grant awarded by the Illinois Liquor Control Commission’s “Kids Can’t Buy ‘Em Here” Tobacco Enforcement Program, the Elburn Police Department educates local tobacco retailers on minimum-age tobacco laws and the importance of verifying the age of customers before selling age-restrictive products such as tobacco.

• BP Amoco, 940 N. Main St.
• Elburn Liquors, 319 S. Main St.
• Jewel/Osco, 800 N. Main St.
• Mobil Gas, 213 S. Main St.
• Valley Liquors, 151 E. Rt. 38
• Walgreens, 1001 N. Main St.
