‘Hawk’ Harrelson’s June 15 Cougars Visit Takes on Special Meaning

Ken “Hawk” Harrelson’s upcoming visit to Northwestern Medicine Field takes on some special meeting following the recent passing of longtime White Sox broadcaster Jimmy Piersall.

The Kane County Cougars have announced that Harrelson, the legendary Chicago White Sox broadcaster, will headline the “Out to the Ballgame III” event on Thursday, June 15, at Northwestern Medicine Field. Harrelson, along with Cougars owner Dr. Bob Froehlich, will speak to attendees during a special event as part of a Super Suite package.

Piersall, the former Gold Glove center fielder for the Boston Red Sox, is best remembered in this area for teaming with Harry Caray at White Sox broadcasters in the years prior to Harrelson’s long stint in that role.

Harrelson remembers Piersall in this Chicago Tribune story and many other articles and tributes this week. Piersall died Saturday at the age of 87 at a care facility in Wheaton.

On June 15, fans will have a unique opportunity to hear Harrelson speak and enjoy a buffet dinner and Cougars game from a Super Suite during the “Out to the Ballgame” event.

For $75, guests will be guaranteed a Hawk Harrelson bobblehead, courtesy of Melrose Pyrotechnics, a speakers’ program featuring Froehlich and Harrelson, followed by a question-and-answer segment, buffet dinner and Super Suite ticket for the Cougars game.

Tickets are available for purchase by calling the Cougars front office at 630-232-8811 or by ordering online. Seating is limited.

The event, held in the Super Suite, located in the upper deck of Northwestern Medicine Field, will begin at 4 p.m. when doors open. The speakers’ program kicks off at 4:30 p.m. with Froehlich, followed by Hawk Harrelson, one of the most recognizable individuals among Chicago sports fans.

A question-and-answer session will take place following the speakers’ program while guests can enjoy an all-you-can-eat buffet with hamburgers, hot dogs, brats, chicken, fruit and potato salad plus soda and water. A cash bar will be available as well.

Following the event, the Cougars will take the field to face the Peoria Chiefs at 6:30 p.m. After the game, fans will be treated to a fireworks show set to classic rock music and run the bases (weather permitting).
