AURORA MAN GETS 7 YEARS FOR FATAL DUI CRASH
TEST REVEALED DRIVER HAD INGESTED MARIJUANA

An Aurora man has been sentenced to prison for killing an elderly woman and injuring a second person when he was driving a car while impaired.
Paris T. Lisy
Twenty-four-year-old Paris T. Lisy on May 3, 2017, agreed to a sentence of seven years’ imprisonment in the Illinois Department of Corrections in exchange for a guilty plea to two counts of aggravated DUI, one a Class 2 felony and one a Class 4 felony.
Kane County Circuit Judge James C. Hallock accepted the plea.
Kane County prosecutors presented evidence that shortly before 5:30 p.m. May 16, 2013, Lisy was driving a 2000 Ford Contour east in the 700 block of New Haven Avenue in Aurora. Lisy’s vehicle left the road to the right side and struck a 2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue that was legally parked in a parking spot off the road.
Upon being struck, the Oldsmobile struck the two victims. One of the victims, 78-year-old Mary Niemeyer of Aurora, was knocked to the ground, suffered massive head injuries and died eight days later as a result of the injuries. The other victim suffered a shattered left femur.
A toxicology test performed on Lisy’s blood revealed the presence of THC in his system.
According to Illinois law, Lisy must serve at least 85 percent of the sentence. He was given credit for 876 days served in the Kane County jail.
The case was prosecuted by Kane County Assistant State’s Attorney’s Vince Coyle and Bill Engerman.
AURORA GANG LEADER GETS PRISON FOR DRUG DEAL

An Aurora gang member with a history of felony convictions has been sentenced to prison for selling drugs to an undercover officer.
Kane County Circuit Judge John A. Barsanti today sentenced 39-year-old Paul F. Benavides to 10 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
On March 31, 2017, Benavides pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance, a Class 1 felony.
Kane County prosecutors presented evidence that on May 2, 2014, an undercover law-enforcement officer, working as part of an investigation, gave Benavides
60 cartons of cigarettes in exchange for $800 cash and 6.5 grams of cocaine. The transaction took place in the 2000 block of Tall Oaks Drive, Aurora. Benavides acknowledged during the sentencing hearing that he is a member of an Aurora street gang.
Benavides was subject to an enhanced sentence because of his criminal history. He previously pleaded guilty in 1995 to a felony gun offense in DuPage County, and in 2009 to a felony drug offense in LaSalle County. He has six additional, unrelated felony convictions.
According to Illinois law, Benavides is eligible for day-for-day sentencing. He was given credit for 314 days served in the Kane County jail.
The case was prosecuted by Kane County Assistant State’s Attorney Andrew Whitfield.
