KDOT June Construction Update: Longmeadow Parkway Continues to Move Forward
- Each month, the Kane County Division of Transportation provides the county’s Transportation Committee with an update on road work throughout the county and a look ahead at the project scope and duration. Here’s a summary of the June 2017 report, with text and images provided by KDOT.
Longmeadow Parkway
Construction on Longmeadow Parkway continues to move forward from west of Randall Road to Karen Drive in Algonquin.
Work includes excavating and placing embankment for the new roadway for the widening and reconstruction from Randall Road to White Chapel Road. Storm sewer laterals, fiber optic cable relocation and pond excavation along Randall Road have rounded out the work for the last month as crews have worked around the recent inclement weather.
Pavement removal and temporary widening along Randall and Sleepy Hollow Roads will occur later this month, weather permitting. Anticipated completion date is fall 2017.
Bliss Road Over Blackberry Bridge Replacement
Work continues on the Bliss over Blackberry bridge replacement project with pavement widening, placement of temporary traffic barrier walls and setting sheet piling for the staged construction of the new bridge. Bridge framing and construction is anticipated to start mid-June, weather permitting.
The project is anticipated to be complete by fall 2017.
Annual Resurfacing Program
Work on the county’s annual resurfacing program began in April and includes over 20 miles of roadway resurfacing and/or guardrail work on portions of the following routes: Ellithorpe Road, Peplow Road, Scott Road, Fabyan Parkway, Hughes Road, Perry Road and Harter Road.
In order to replace the old pavement, the contractor will first mill and prepare the roadway involving temporary daily lane closures with flaggers directing traffic. This work is anticipated to take approximately five months to complete, weather permitting.
