Local Tourism ‘Experience’ Topic of Visitors Bureau Reception June 15 at Club Arcada
In the tourism business these days, it’s all about the experience.
And anyone in the tourism business in the St. Charles area might want to experience the Greater St. Charles Convention and Visitors Bureau’s annual Tourism Reception from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 15, at Club Arcada, 105 E. Main Street, St. Charles.
This year’s theme is “Creating the path for experiential travel.”
The GSCCVB team will celebrate achievements in FY 2017, which include the one year anniversary of Executive Director Lula S. Cassidy and the recently celebrated Best Visitor Publication award for the 2016-17 Greater St. Charles, Illinois Visitors Guide.
The reception also will feature nominations for Best Cooperative Partnership and Scarecrow Fest for Best Festival or Event at the Illinois Governor’s Conference on Tourism, and an overview of the new collaboration with QUADRA — a cooperative of four St. Charles agencies that care for the economic impact of the area (city of St. Charles, St. Charles Chamber of Commerce, Downtown St. Charles Partnership and the Greater St. Charles Convention and Visitors Bureau). New initiatives and plans for FY 2018 will also be discussed.
State Rep. Ann M. Williams, 11th District, will be the evening’s keynote speaker, and one of a number of officials scheduled to attend this year’s reception, including state Rep. Steven Andersson, 65th District, state Rep. LaShawn K. Ford, 8th District, and state Rep. Marcus C. Evans, 33rd District.
Also in attendance will be city of St. Charles aldermen Arthur Lemke, Rita Payleitner and Maureen Lewis, Police Chief James Keegan, Kane County Board members Philip Lewis, Drew Frasz, and Rebecca Gillam, 16th Circuit Judge Clint Hall, Elburn Village President Jeffrey Walter, Kane County Sheriff Don Kramer, Kane County Coroner Rob Russell and Kane County Chief Deputy Circuit Clerk Stan Bond. Morning show host Scott Mackay from 95.9 “The River” will make an appearance at the reception, as well.
This year’s reception marks the GSCCVB’s 34th year of service to the Greater St. Charles service area and to the state of Illinois. The bureau will be setting the tone for an extraordinary destination through new campaigns and initiatives.
“In 2017, we launched the idea that St. Charles is the place where you ‘Sight-Do,’ which is defined as ‘To engage in adventure through biking, cruising, globe-trotting or vagabonding. Flying, training or driving to a destination for stimulation of the mind, body and soul.’ ” Cassidy said. “In 2018, through our work at the GSCCVB, St. Charles — with its ecological beauty, eye on agritourism, pulse on health and wellness and emphasis on family activity — will be known as an engaging and captivating place of action and great memories.”
The GSCCVB is funded by the Illinois Office of Tourism and a portion of the hotel/motel tax collected by St. Charles hotels to promote the Greater St. Charles area as a destination for leisure tourists, conventions, sports events, and meetings.
