Snakes, Lizards and Electric Cars Saturday at Aurora’s 2017 GreenFest
The eighth annual Aurora GreenFest — themed “Repair, Re-Purpose, Reconnect” — will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 10, at the Prisco Community Center, 150 W. Illinois Ave., Aurora.
“The things you repair and re-purpose stay out of landfills, reduce the resources we have to take out of the earth, and even save you money, ” said event founder and organizer Mavis Bates. “Come reconnect with the environment and your neighbors, help us build a more sustainable, resilient community.”
New this year, the Chicago Herpetological Society is bringing its beautiful collection of snakes and lizards.
“The society wants everyone to become more familiar with these gentle creatures, so we will treat them more kindly when we encounter them in the wild,” Bates said. “Re-connect with nature and learn about the importance of habitat and species preservation.”
Other nature exhibits, featuring bats, eagles, bees, skunks and other creatures, are always a big favorite.
If snakes and lizards are not your thing, check out the Green Car Show, showcasing a brand new Tesla and a Nissan Leaf, along with the one-of-a-kind electric cars of the Fox Valley Electric Car Association.
Other highlights include fun and educational kids’ activities, with kids teaching kids about the environment and sustainability, plus live music, local food trucks, and green-friendly energy sources that’ll show you ways to save money and save the world at the same time.
The local market and sustainable trade show includes more than 100 vendors with products and services to help you go green, and meet local organic farmers, too.
“Now more than ever it’s important that we grow and nurture our local sustainability movement,” said Bates. “The Aurora GreenFest is here to build sustainability and resilience in the Fox Valley.”
Bring Your Used Business Clothes to GreenFest
The Aurora Actionaires will be at Greenfest collecting gently used women’s business attire and toiletries. Donations will be given to the Fox Valley Adult Transition Center for women who are interviewing for jobs.
