The village of Carpentersville announces fun-filled, family-friendly events this weekend. The Saturday (June 24, 2017) events kick off with a Community Yard Sale, followed by the grand opening of Keith Andres Park and culminating with Dundee Township Park District Fourth of July fireworks.

Community Yard Sale

9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Carpenter Park

The Carpenter Park Community Yard Sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Carpenter Park with a set up time of 7 a.m. An alternative date of Saturday, July 1, 2017, will be set in case of inclement weather.

For a small fee, participants may display goods. Items not allowed for sale include animals/reptiles, pirated media, adult material, weapons, and food (excluding vendors). To participate, visit the village webpage at www.cville.org for more details.

“This will be the fourth annual Community Yard Sale Event hosted by the village of Carpentersville Parks & Special Events Commission. The event has grown in popularity as indicated by the increase in the number of vendors. This year we expect 100-plus vendors to participate,” said Public Works Director Bob Cole.

Keith Andres Park Grand Opening

5 p.m. Saturday at 1304 Sacramento Dr.

In efforts to continue promoting the use of the park, the village has made several enhancements to the Sacramento Drive Entryway. Improvements include a paved entrance, informational kiosk, and picnic area.

“The Improvements to the Sacramento Drive entrance into Keith Andres Park is a tribute to Keith Andres’ life,” Cole said.

Andres was the first lifelong Carpentersville resident to lose his life in the Vietnam War, Village Manager Mark Rooney said.

“Coming up on the 40^th anniversary of Keith Andres’ death in Vietnam, the park is being re-dedicated and re-purposed with the mountain bike trails,” he said.

Dundee Township Park District Community Fireworks

• 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday at Meadowdale Park

Saturday concludes with a fireworks display at Meadowdale Park, across the street from Village Hall or behind the Meadowdale Shopping Center. The event begins at 7:30 p.m. with a concert.

Fire Chief John-Paul Schilling says he’s getting excited about the event, which beings at dark, between 9:30 p.m. and 10 p.m.

“This year, the fireworks are going to be outstanding, with more fireworks than last year!” he said.

Dundee Township Park District sponsors the fireworks event. Rooney reminds spectators that the Civil War cannon will be fired on the hour and half hour preceding a free concert at 7:30 p.m.
