'America in Bloom' Will Judge St. Charles July 13-14

‘America in Bloom’ Will Judge St. Charles July 13-14

St. Charles is putting its best face forward this month, as two America in Bloom judges get set for a July 13-14 visit.

The judges will tour the community, paying attention to the overall impression it conveys.

“So be sure to tidy up your yard on judging days,” the St. Charles in Bloom Committee said in a Friday (July 7, 2017) news release.

Last year, St. Charles distinguished itself by taking home the award for Outstanding Achievement in Landscaped Areas, and earned the maximum score of 5 out of 5 “Blooms.”

St. Charles in Bloom Committee Member Diane Cullen said residents are excited to welcome the judges back to St. Charles.

“The St. Charles in Bloom Committee and all the volunteers have been working hard for the last few months to ready our city for this honor,” she said. “We’re hoping to build on last year’s award and earn further recognition for our city.”

This year, local elementary school students have pitched in to help prepare for the judges’ visit. They designed artwork featuring red geraniums, the city’s official flower for the 2017 St. Charles in Bloom effort. The artwork will be on display in windows along Main Street for the week that the judges will be visiting.

The St. Charles in Bloom Committee also recently helped organize the installation of new strings of lights on the First Street Plaza. The lights were paid for and installed thanks to a collaborative effort between the committee, Downtown St. Charles Partnership and local businesses.

Red geraniums will be all over the place.

“Snap a photo and tag us on Instagram (@cityofstcharlesil) or Facebook (@CityofStCharles). Your shot may be featured!” the news release said.
