VIDEO UPDATE: Batavia, BATV Post Live Feed of Aug. 2 Hearing on Campana Redevelopment

If you have driven through Geneva or Batavia lately, you’ve probably seen the signs with the universal “no” symbol and the word “Campana” inside.

Those signs represent some people’s reaction to a proposal to redevelop the historic building as mixed‐income (market rate and affordable) multi‐family residential and to retain some of the existing commercial uses currently in the building.

Although you probably won’t see yard signs advertising it, there are many people in favor of the development proposal, as well.

The development would include 80 one‐, two‐ and three‐bedroom apartment units located in the 1936 block and northern 1960s wing. It is proposed that commercial spaces in the southern circa-1960s wing and in the circa-1990s warehouse will be retained. As part of its redevelopment of the site, Evergreen Real Estate Group will restore the major historic components of the building.

Because of high interest in the project, the city of Batavia and BATV.com are collaborating to provide a live feed of the Wednesday, Aug. 2, hearing on the proposed redevelopment project. The feed will be available through the BATV Youtube account. The hearing will also be broadcast live on Comcast Channel 10 and available at MyBATV.com in the week following the hearing.

The City Council chambers hold 330 people. According to a city of Batavia and BATV news release, if attendance exceeds capacity, the meeting may be postponed and moved to a facility with larger seating capacity.

On May 2, 2017, the Batavia City Council’s Committee of the Whole reviewed an Initial Land Use Proposal Review for a proposed redevelopment of the historic Campana Building at 901 North Batavia Ave.
