UPDATE: Carpentersville Firefighters Brings Their Brother Home
Carpentersville Fire Department Battalion Chief Todd Middendorf was brought home Thursday. Middendorf died unexpectedly July 18 while on vacation.
With firefighter honors, the 23-year veteran of the fire service was welcomed back to the Chicago area with an arching jet of water launched by fire hoses of the Chicago Fire Department. Middendorf was then escorted back to Carpentersville by members of the Carpentersville Fire Department and Police Department.
The escort was met by at the intersection of Interstate 90 and Route 31 by fire trucks from Carpentersville, Elgin, East Dundee, West Dundee and Rutland Dundee fire departments for the final leg of the journey.

Todd J. Middendorf, 46, of Carpentersville passed away suddenly on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville, TN.
Todd was born in Dubuque, IA, on Dec. 21, 1970, and was the son of Gerald J. and Barbara E. (nee O’Connor) Middendorf.
Todd was a resident of Carpentersville for almost 24 years and was a member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Algonquin. He began his career in fire service back in 1992 as a volunteer with Hazel Green Fire Department in Hazel Green, WI. He served in Hazel Green until 1994.
He later became a professional full-time firefighter and was employed by the village of Carpentersville for almost 24 years, having risen through the ranks to battalion chief.
Todd was a huge Green Bay Packers Fan as well as Nascar. He fulfilled his dream for retirement by purchasing a home in Tennessee.
Survivors include his wife of 10 years; Daisy Morales Middendorf, and their son; Tyler. Other survivors include his parents; Gerald and Barbara. His siblings Troy (Brenda) and Tim (Emily) Middendorf, Tami (Matt) DeMuth and Tara (Eric) Budde. His mother-in-law and father-in-law; Ramon & Caridad Morales, his sister-in-law; Lourdes Morales as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends including all the area fire service professionals. Todd was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.
Visitation, Mass and a Fire Service Tribute were held on Thursday, July 27, 2017, at St. Mary Church 10307 Dundee Road in Huntley.
