Fox River Trail users may experience brief delays through St. Charles, South Elgin and Elgin this summer, due to multiple construction and tree-trimming projects along the regional trail.

Lewis Tree Service will be working with ComEd to trim remove dead ash trees, as well as to trim or remove small, fast-growing trees within three feet of poles or directly under power lines. The project is between Villa Marie Road in St. Charles to SEBA Park in South Elgin. The project is scheduled from July 17 to Aug. 14.

ComEd will also be doing work along the Fox River Trail, immediately south of U.S. Route 20, in anticipation of planned Metra changes in the area. ComEd will be removing two utility poles. The work is set to begin July 17, and should be completed by Sept. 4.

Farther north in Elgin, West Shore Pipeline will be working to replace a pipeline valve. The pipeline crosses the Fox River Trail just north of I-90. While they will not be digging up the trail, construction crews will be moving their equipment across it and staging in the area. The work zone is between I-90 and Hickory Drive, along Duncan Avenue. The project is scheduled from July 18 to Aug. 12.

The Forest Preserve District of Kane County asks trail users to be mindful of the three construction/tree-trimming projects. Signs will be posted at both ends of project areas, to alert the public. Fox River Trail users are encouraged to use caution around equipment and work crews.
