• Each month, the Kane County Division of Transportation provides the county’s Transportation Committee with an update on roadwork throughout the county and a look ahead at the project scope and duration. Here’s a summary of the July 2017 report, with text and images provided by KDOT.

Longmeadow Parkway

Despite heavy rains, construction continues to move forward from west of Randall Road to Karen Drive in Algonquin.

Topsoil is being stripped and embankment is being placed along the east and center portions of the new roadway. Multiple crews are laying new storm sewer lines and laterals along Longmeadow Parkway. Temporary widening along Randall and Sleepy Hollow Roads has been completed in preparation for staged demolition and construction.

Anticipated completion date for the project is November 2017.

Bliss Bridge Replacement

The first half of the bridge deck was poured as work continues on the Bliss over Blackberry bridge replacement project. Approach slabs and final grading will be prepared before switching to stage 2 at the end of July.

Anticipated completion date is fall 2017.

Plank Road Culvert Replacement

Construction has started on the demolition of the existing culvert for the Plank Road over the tributary to Burlington Creek culvert replacement project. Work for the next few weeks will entail installing a new box culvert with wing walls, excavation, embankment grading, and pavement resurfacing.

Completion is scheduled for late August 2017.

Work Zone Safety Alert

Drivers in these project areas should be prepared to reduce their speed, exercise caution, watch for construction workers and construction vehicles entering or leaving the site, and obey flaggers and other traffic control devices within the work zone.

Drivers should expect delays and may want to add additional time to their commutes and consider the use of alternate routes while this work is completed.

Kane County reminds drivers that is illegal to talk on a cell phone or text while driving through a highway construction work zone. The minimum penalty for spe­eding in a work zone is $375.
