The Kane County Sheriff’s Office hosts the Big Kahuna of National Night Out events Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2017, at the Kane County Judicial Center campus, 37w755 IL Route 38 in St. Charles.

Sponsored by the Sheriff’s Office and Neighborhood Watch, the night of fun and educational event takes place from 6 p.m. t0 8:30 p.m. with a theme of “Police and Community Together.”

The event features community-building activities, fun and educational resources, food and entertainment for kids. One of the popular highlights is a chance to meet Deputy Nick Wolf and his K-9 Erin.

Also on hand will be representatives of the Kane County Coroner’s Office, Kane County Division of Transportation, Kane County Emergency Communications, Kane County Farm Bureau, Mounted Rangers and Kane County Office of Emergency Management.

The Sheriff’s Office is located on IL Route 38 just west of Randall Road, at the intersection of Peck Road.

Local law enforcers from all over the county will participate in local anti-crime efforts and strengthen community spirit. Below is a roundup of events from participating communities.

Aurora

Each Ward Celebrates on Aug. 1

Forty-five neighborhoods throughout Aurora are planning events big and small to celebrate National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2017.

Billed as “America’s Night Out Against Crime,” National Night Out encourages residents to lock their doors, turn on their porch lights and spend the evening getting to know their neighbors, police officers, firefighters and other city officials.

“National Night Out is a prime example of what it means to be ‘One Aurora’ as we strive to build our city together,” Mayor Richard Irvin said.  “Because of the success of previous National Night Out events, new neighborhood groups have been formed all throughout the city. This year, National Night Out is bigger and better than ever. On this one night, we’ll have 45 neighborhood gatherings with thousands of Aurorans coming together to celebrate the present and plan for the future.”

Village of Campton Hills presents 11^th Annual National Night Out

The 11^th Annual National Night Out in the Village of Campton Hills will be held on Tuesday, August 1 from 6-8pm. The location will be on School Street between Rt. 64 and LaFox Road.

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and resident camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. Together, we are making that happen. National Night Out events are held with more than 38 million people in 16,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities, and military bases worldwide.

More than 20 organizations and local businesses will provide safety, health, environmental and community education. Simulated Firefighting, Facing Painting, Contests and Demonstrations will be available for children and families. Live animals will be on-site. Free snacks and beverages will be available.

“This is a great opportunity for the Campton Hills community to meet members of the Campton Hills Police Department as well as the local businesses and organizations who support us and serve the community”, said Chief Dan Hoffman.

Elburn Celebrates National Night Out, Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2017

Elburn will celebrate NNO from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, in neighborhoods throughout the village. Elburn residents and people from across the nation are asked to lock their doors, turn on their front porch lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and law enforcement.

Along with the traditional outside lights and front porch vigils, most cities and towns celebrate National Night Out by hosting block parties, festivals, parades, cookouts and other various community events, with safety demonstrations, seminars, youth events, visits from emergency personnel and exhibits, National Project Coordinator Matt Peskin said.

“This is a night for our nation to stand together and promote awareness, safety, and neighborhood unity,” Peskin said. “National Night Out showcases the vital importance of police-community partnerships and citizen involvement. When law enforcement and community work closely together, some amazing things can happen.”

Come out and join the Elburn Police Department at Lion’s Park on Tuesday for fun filled evening of events and free giveaways for kids.

“We also will have a free cookout sponsored by Elburn Police Department, Ream’s Meat Market, Elburn Lion’s Club, and your local Jewel / Osco,” Peskin said.

The Elburn & Countryside Fire Protection District will be having a Children’s Fire Hazard Obstacle Course, Hands-on Fire Extinguisher Demo and Simulator, and “Touch a Truck” (fire engine and ambulance vehicles) that will be available during our event.

Huntley’s National Night Out Event takes place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1, at the Huntley Police Department, 10987 Main St.

Visitors will have a shot at police station tours, “Touch a Truck” attractions, a Moonwalk for the kids, a DUI-Texting Obstacle Course, games, blood-pressure checks, Kona Ice and more.

North Aurora Celebrates Aug. 1 With Block Parties, Cookouts

From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1, residents in neighborhoods throughout North Aurora and across the nation  are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police.

“National Night Out showcases the vital importance of police-community partnerships and citizen involvement in our fight to build a safer community,” organizers said.

Many neighborhoods throughout North Aurora will be hosting a variety of special events such as block parties, cookouts, and other gatherings. There will be visits from police, including McGruff the Crime Dog, and the fire department.

“We’ll be showing off our vehicles and interacting with the residents and kids,” North Aurora’s news release said. “We encourage residents to contact us if you are hosting a National Night Out gathering so that we can put you on our list to visit.”
