2017-18 School Year Start Dates, Fun Facts For 9 Kane County Public School Districts
Believe it or not, some Kane County students already have started school and many others will start in the next week.
It is truly a year of firsts for a lot of school districts, with construction at Central High School in District 301, a new Hill Elementary School in District 129 and the introduction of busing in School District 131.
School started Tuesday, Aug. 15, for students in School District 300, and kindergarten through 12th-grade students in School District U-46 start today (Aug. 16, 2017). For most of the rest of Kane County public schools, the first day is Wednesday, Aug. 23.
The first day of the fall semester for Waubonsee Community College and Elgin Community College is Monday, Aug. 21, 2017.

School District 300

- School Starts: Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2017
- Fun Facts:
- School District U-46 serves nearly 40,000 students from 11 communities across Kane, Cook, and DuPage counties. With 40 elementary schools, eight middle schools, and five high schools, U-46 ranks as the second largest district in Illinois.

Central School District 301
- School Starts: Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2017
- Fun Facts:
- Construction at Central High School: “We have made a lot of progress over the course of the summer and are excited for our students, their families, and our community to see our new Phase 1 addition and the changes to our library. We still have some finishing touches to complete before school starts next week.”
- You can find bus route information on the Transportation page of the website beginning today (Aug. 16, 2017). Routes may change, so please check again closer to the first day!
- Elementary schools will host Meet ‘n Greet from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22, in each building.
St. Charles School District 303
- School Starts: Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2017
- Fun Facts:
- The Home Access Center for student information is now available for elementary students and middle school students. The Home Access Center for High School students will be available at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 21.

Kaneland School District 302

- Fun Facts:
- The Geneva Board of Education approved the establishment of a school district preschool program for the 2017-18 school year. The program will serve tuition-based students and special education students within a blended program

Batavia School District 101
- School Starts: Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2017 (K-12)
- Fun Facts:
- BPS Hall of Honor Celebration: On Thursday Oct. 5, 2017, BPS101 will welcome eight individual inductees into its Hall of Honor at Batavia High School.
- Corn Boil 2017 takes place Friday, Aug. 18! The Corn Boil is the kickoff for Batavia High School fall athletics and marching band season — a wonderful community event where your family can enjoy a meal PLUS purchase spirit wear and support all BPS101 athletes.
Aurora West School District 129
- School Starts: Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2017
- Fun Facts:
- Due to the commencement of the demolition and renovation of the future Early Childhood Center, the only entrance and exit to the District Office at 1877 W Downer Place will be on Downer.
- District 129 will give all K-12 students the opportunity to view the solar eclipse on Aug. 21.
- A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Hill Elementary School will take place at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 17.
Aurora East School District 131
- School Starts: Monday, Aug. 28, 2017
- Fun Facts:
- East Aurora High School introduces a commemorative brick paver program for the soon to be completed new stadium. Individuals and groups may purchase an engraved brick to honor, celebrate and commemorate their association with East High.
- East Aurora School District 129 will introduce busing for the first time in the school’s history. “Buses are coming! School bus transportation is new to our students, families, as well as our communities and roads. Like anything new, the start will often involve a learning curve for everyone.” This week a transportation letter will be sent to the parent/guardian of all students eligible for transportation.
