The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office has authorized two counts of first Degree Murder charges in connection to the death of 60-year-old Kevin Shenko of St. Charles Township. The charges are against his son, 22-year-old John Shenko. The two men lived together at the home where the incident occurred.
John Shenko will be at bond call at 8:30 a.m. today (Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2017) at the Kane County Adult Justice Center located at 37W777 IL Route 38 in St Charles.
The Kane County Coroner’s Office identified Kevin Shenko in a Monday afternoon news release, but his son’s identity was withheld until charges were filed today.
According to earlier reports, sheriff’s deputies had been dispatched at around 1:15 a.m. Sunday (Aug. 13, 2017) to 7N298 Longridge Road in unincorporated St. Charles Township for a report of a subject screaming for help. Upon arrival, deputies located Kevin Shenko lying on the ground outside the residence.
“It appeared the subject had been stabbed,” the sheriff’s report said.
Deputies said John Shenko was found outside the residence, and the man was taken into custody.
“This appears to be an isolated domestic incident, and sheriff’s detectives are not looking for anyone else in regard to this incident,” the report said.
The Kane County Coroner’s Office performed an autopsy Monday, and the preliminary cause of death was multiple stab wounds. Toxicology samples were collected and sent to a forensic lab.
