Amazing ‘Manufacture Your Future’ Event Tuesday (Aug. 29) at Gail Borden Library

Ever wonder how Gail Borden Library’s popular Dinosaur Giants exhibit got built?

It doesn’t happen by magic or in a vacuum. Real companies do real manufacturing work, and Gail Borden Library is introducing people to those amazing companies in a special event Tuesday, Aug. 29, called “Manufacture Your Future.”

Acme Design, a local fabricator, has assisted Dr. Paul Sereno, the paleontologist who discovered and created the “Giants” exhibit, on another project, Spinosaurus, and is one of the featured manufacturers that will be on hand for the Tuesday event offered via a partnership between the Elgin Area Chamber of Commerce and the Gail Borden Public Library District.

Did you know that the Elgin area is home to more than 600 manufacturers? According to the Elgin Chamber’s website, Elgin is one of the most vital and productive economic engines in the state.

“Elgin maintains over 72 percent of the existing inventory of manufacturing space in the northern Kane County sub-market,” the site says. “Elgin’s location along I-90 with three full access points and proximity to major roads, the Chicago market and O’Hare Airport make it an ideal location for domestic and international businesses. Elgin also provides an abundant, skilled labor pool for manufacturers.”

Representatives from Acme Design, Fabric Images, Hoffer Plastics, NTN Bearing Manufacturing, Elgin Sweeper, MKD Electric, Zero Edge Aquariums and more will be at the library from 3 p.m. to 5 .m. Tuesday, Aug. 29.  Leaders from industry organizations such as the Fabricators & Manufacturers Association and the Manufacturing Careers Internship Program will also be there as well as representatives from Elgin Community College.

The library hosts these manufacturing events to connect people with opportunities, especially those in their own back yard.

Materials for the GBPL Sept. 21 Job Fair and the School District U-46 Career Expo on Oct. 14 will also be available Tuesday at MYF.
