County Board OKs Reducing Speed Limits to 25 MPH in Area of Wild Rose Elementary

Five areas of roadway in St. Charles Township will drop to 25 mph speed limits, following action Tuesday (Aug. 8, 2017) by the Kane County Board.
The county passed a resolution reducing the present 30 mph limits in the area of Wild Rose Elementary School, 36W730 Red Haw Lane, St. Charles.
The speed limits will be reduced on Thornaplle Road, Thonly Road, Oakridge Lane, Ferson Creek Road and Wild Rose Road.
The limits were changed following an engineering investigation at the request of the St. Charles Township Road District.
According to the executive summary in the County Board agenda packet, there are School Zone signs of “20 mph when children are present” posted by the Wild Rose Elementary School, but the St. Charles Township highway commissioner “has received calls from residents concerned about speeding motorists.”
Staff members recommended the speed limit for these roads be reduced to 25 mph for the roads listed in the ordinance.
APPROVING ALTERATION OF STATUTORY SPEED LIMITS, ST. CHARLES TOWNSHIP
WHEREAS, the Kane County Division of Transportation has caused an engineering and traffic investigation to be made on the below named streets or highways not under the jurisdiction of the Illinois Department of Transportation; and
WHEREAS, the Transportation Committee has reviewed the results of said investigation and has recommended the alteration of maximum speed limits as set out in the Illinois Vehicle Code, 625 ILCS 5/11-604, so as to be reasonable, safe and proper; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Kane County Board, that pursuant to Illinois Vehicle Code, 625 ILCS 5/11-604, the maximum speed limits on the section of the below named streets or highways shall be as indicated in the following schedule; and that this ordinance shall be effective upon the approval of the Kane County Board as provided by Statute and the posting of signs giving notice of the altered maximum speed limits.
