A Midlothian man is scheduled to return to court Wednesday on aggravated DUI charges after he was charged for driving while impaired on Interstate 88 in southwestern Kane County.
The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office charged 31-year-old Steven A. Johnson. Jr., with aggravated DUI, a Class 4 felony, and resisting a police officer, a Class A misdemeanor, driving while license suspended, operating an uninsured vehicle, and improper lane use, a traffic offense.
Kane County prosecutors allege that sometime around 10:30 p.m. Aug. 6, 2017, Johnson had a blood-alcohol concentration of at least .316 when he was involved in a traffic crash while westbound on Interstate 88 near mile marker 108 west of Route 47.
Johnson was taken to an Aurora hospital, where he unsuccessfully attempted to flee from custody.
At the time of the offense, Johnson was wanted on a warrant out of Cook County and was driving on a suspended license due to a prior DUI, and was free on bond for a pending DUI charge in Kane County.
A Kane County judge set Johnson’s bail at $25,000, with 10 percent ($2,500) to apply for bond. Johnson’s next court appearance is set for 9 a.m. Aug. 9, 2017, in front of Circuit Judge John A. Barsanti in Courtroom 319 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
The case was investigated by the Illinois State Police District 15.
The charges against Johnson are not proof of guilt. Johnson is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the state’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
ROCKFORD MAN CHARGED IN DEATH OF CO-WORKER AT HAMPSHIRE MEAT PLANT

A Rockford man faces criminal charges in connection with an incident that resulted in a co-worker’s death at a Hampshire meat plant.
Kane County prosecutors have charged 24-year-old Ler Htoo with involuntary manslaughter, a Class 3 felony, in the Aug. 2, 2017, death of 22-year-old Ai Moo Say of Rockford.
The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office alleges that on Aug. 2, 2017, Htoo, acting recklessly, threw a meat knife at Ai Moo Say, striking him and causing an entry wound near his heart, resulting in his death.
Htoo appeared this morning in Kane County Bond court. The judge set Htoo’s bail at $100,000 with 10 percent ($10,000) to apply for bond, and set his initial court appearance for 9 a.m. Aug. 18, 2017, in front of Circuit Judge John A. Barsanti in Courtroom 319 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
If Htoo posts bond he must wear a GPS monitoring device, and he is prohibited from returning to the scene of the alleged offense, in the 200 block of Flannigan Road, Hampshire.
If convicted, Htoo would face a sentence of probation or between 2 and 5 years’ imprisonment in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
The case was investigated by the Hampshire Police Department.

AURORA MAN GETS 27 YEARS IN PRISON FOR SEXUALLY ASSAULTING CHILD

A Kane County judge has sentenced an Aurora area man to prison for sexually assaulting a young child he knew.
Kane County Circuit Judge James C. Hallock today sentenced 24-year-old Orane R. Foster to 27 years’ imprisonment in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
A Kane County jury on May 11, 2017, convicted Foster of four counts of predatory criminal sexual assault, each a Class X felony, and aggravated criminal sexual abuse, a Class 2 felony.
Kane County prosecutors presented evidence that between June 2015 and August 2015 Foster sexually assaulted the victim. Foster was living in Aurora with the victim and her mother at the time of the assaults, which occurred in their residence. The victim was younger than 12 years old.
In addition to the prison term, Foster must register for life as a sexual offender in accordance with the Illinois Sexual Offender Registration Act.
According to Illinois law, Foster must serve at least 85 percent of the sentence. He receives credit for 722 days served in the Kane County jail.
The case was prosecuted by Kane County Assistant State’s Attorney Lori Schmidt and Nydia Molina, who are assigned to the Kane County Child Advocacy Center.
POLICE SEEK WEST DUNDEE MAN CHARGED FOR GROWING MARIJUANA IN HIS BASEMENT

Authorities are searching for a West Dundee man who has been charged for running a marijuana cultivation operation in his basement.
The Kane County State’s Attorney this week charged 37-year-old Vladimir Srebnik with unauthorized production of cannabis sativa plants, a Class 2 felony, and obstructing justice, a Class 4 felony.
The Kane County State’s Attorney alleges that Srebnik knowingly and unlawfully produced and possessed more than 50 but fewer than 200 marijuana plants in his residence, and that he knowingly destroyed evidence of a crime.
Srebnik’s whereabouts are unknown and a warrant for his arrest has been issued. His bail was set at $100,000 with 10 percent ($10,000) to apply for bond.
