Last Chance: Check Out CMAP’s ‘Alternative Future’ Kiosks Throughout Kane County
You have a chance to meet the future of Kane County — but time is running out.
If you’ve visited the Gail Borden Public Library, the Kane County Health Department, the St. Charles Public Library or attended the Kane County Fair this summer, you might have seen one of the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning’s Alternative Futures kiosks.
CMAP is working with local partners throughout the region to host these kiosks at various public locations and event venues.
The survey kiosk, which consists of an i-Pad mounted to a podium-like stand, allows residents to answer questions about their communities, which will inform the development of CMAP’s ON TO 2050 regional plan. The Alternative Futures surveys cover five topic areas:
- Changed Climate — By 2050, our climate will differ from today’s in fundamental ways, forcing us to rethink how we build infrastructure, neighborhoods, and cities. What can our region do to prepare?
- Walkable Communities — If today’s trends continue, more people will want to live in walkable suburban and city neighborhoods by 2050. How will our region look, and how can communities adapt to benefit from this trend?
- Innovative Transportation — As transportation technology rapidly evolves, how will we harness it to improve our lives, local communities, and the region’s economy?
- Transformed Economy — Between now and 2050, how can metropolitan Chicago improve access to education, employment, and critical resources to ensure individuals can achieve the American Dream and maintain a thriving regional economy?
- Constrained Resources — In 2050, resources to fund infrastructure and vital public services at all levels of government are likely to diminish. What can be done to give communities and the region the best chance at success?
The Kane County kiosk is nearing the end of its rotation and will be spending its final week at the Town and Country Library in Elburn. It will be stationed in the main lobby through the end of August. The library is located at 320 E. North Street in Elburn, IL.
CMAP has a dedicated webpage for sharing information on the public engagement effort to solicit feedback on the five Alternative Futures as well as a map (embedded above) illustrating locations of kiosks throughout the metro region.
