The Kane County 2017 Pavement Preservation program is scheduled to begin crack sealing and cape sealing today (Aug. 3, 2017) on Ramm Road just north of Virgil, weather permitting.

The program involves filling and sealing roadway cracks on Ramm Road to prevent water penetration prior to cape sealing. Cape sealing involves application of a bituminous liquid mixed with a crushed limestone aggregate, followed by a micro-surface hot-mix asphalt layer on top.

The crack sealing is anticipated to take less than one week to complete. The cape sealing is anticipated to take one week.

The roads and locations to be treated are listed below.

Cape sealing will extend the longevity of the roadway by preventing moisture from penetrating the surface, and reducing the damaged caused by the freeze thaw effect.

Ramm Road will remain open during treatment, but reduced to one lane at various times for this work. Work will be performed from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Work Zone Safety Alert

Drivers in this project area should be prepared to reduce their speed, exercise caution, watch for construction workers and construction vehicles entering or leaving the site, and obey flaggers and other traffic control devices within the work zone.

Drivers should expect delays and may want to add additional time to their commutes and consider the use of alternate routes while this work is completed.

KDOT reminds drivers that is illegal to talk on a cell phone or text while driving through a highway construction work zone. The minimum penalty for speeding in a work zone is $375.
