The term “tabby” is often used to describe a breed of feline, but the term actually means the pattern of a cat’s coat, not the specific breed.

Such is the case of KCAC’s very own Harvey, a 1-year-old brown-and-white tabby owner surrendered along with his brother Hopper. Although Harvey’s breed is that of a domestic shorthair, you could make the case for inventing a specific breed just for him, perhaps placing him in the handsome, princely or noble categories.

He seems to enjoy the company of other cats, as long as they’re not too dominating. Although he may play shy at first, with the right amount of love and a few toys, he’ll begin his chatty monologue to help keep you company throughout the day.

Whatever his ancestry, Harvey is definitely a cat with a personality that will make his new forever family happy they’ve given him a forever home.

KCAC Updates

Congratulation to Stripes, our male brown tiger cat and Shadow, a female black domestic shorthair. They were able to find their forever home together last week. We’re so happy for the two of you!

Congrats to BB and Doc, who also were adopted together. We’re sure Doc is arranging the family unit according to how much cuddling time everyone gets.

How to Adopt

All Kane County Animal Control adoptable cats and dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up-to-date on all vaccines, including rabies. They are tested for feline leukemia/FIV and heartworm.

The usual adoption fee is $200 for dogs and $100 for cats. Adoption of two dogs is $300, and adoption of two cats is $150.

About Kane County Animal Control

It is the duty of the Animal Control Department to:

• Ensure that all domesticated dogs and cats over 4 months of age are vaccinated against rabies and have a Kane County rabies tag.
• Ensure that all reported animal bites are given precautionary attention in relation to the possibility rabies infection.
• Ensure that pet owners are instructed on proper procedures pertaining to animal bites and enforce adherence to these procedures.
• Contain loose\stray dogs in unincorporated Kane County and those towns and villages with whom contracted.
• Investigate nuisance dog complaints in unincorporated Kane County and those towns and villages with whom contracted.
• Investigate complaints of neglected and\or abused dogs.
