UPDATE: 2 Men, 1 Woman Charged With First-Degree Murder in Saturday Elgin Stabbing
Two men and a woman have been charged with first-degree murder of 36-year-old Bayron Cruz-Garcia, who was found bleeding Saturday (Aug. 12, 2017) in a parking lot of an industrial company located in the 1100 block of Jansen Farm Dr. in Elgin.
According to a news release from the Elgin Police Department, detectives from the Major Investigations Division identified three suspects they believe were responsible for the stabbing death, and the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office authorized charges of one count of First Degree Murder, a Class M felony, against:
- Gabriel Lopez, 26, of the 600 block of St. Charles St., Elgin
- Carlos Lopez, 29, of the 100 block of Birch St., Carpentersville
- Ivette Rodriguez, 20, of the 1400 block Keele Dr., Carpentersville
Bond was set this morning (Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2017) at $3 million for each of the accused, the Elgin Police Department said.
Elgin Police Chief Jeffrey Swoboda praised the officers who conducted the investigation.
“The work of the responding patrol officers coupled with seasoned detectives resulted in a quick arrest,” he said. “Homicides are rare in Elgin, but when they do occur the Police Department displays professionalism and teamwork that insures those responsible are brought to justice.”
Elgin police became involved at around 1:54 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, when they responded to assist an ambulance with a subject bleeding in a parking lot located in the 1100 block of Jansen Farm Dr. The victim, Bayron Cruz-Rodriguez, 36, of South Elgin, was located and transported to Advocate Sherman Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
An autopsy was performed Monday (Aug. 14, 2017) at the Kane County morgue. The Kane County Coroner’s Office said the preliminary cause of death was multiple stab wounds. Toxicology samples were collected and sent to a forensic lab.

The charges against Gabriel Lopez, Carlos Lopez and Ivette Rodriquez are not proof of guilt. They are presumed innocent and entitled to a fair trial in which it is the state’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
