No ‘Shhhhh’ Here — St. Charles Library Introduces 2017-18 Concert Series
Usually when you think of libraries, you think of quiet. Folks of a certain generation, anyway, remember being shushed by a stern looking librarian during our youth.
Well, those times are over, pal.
St. Charles Public Library has a concert series, and it begins this year at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24, with Choro de Lá pra Cá, a multi-national trio based in Brazil and the Chicago area. The trio, comprised of Julie Koidin, Diogo Guanabar and Caio Padilha, will feature numerous instruments including flute, mandolin, cavaquinho, rabeca, and vocals.
Choro de Lá pra Cá’s unique blend of classical, Brazilian choro, jazz, and Northeastern Brazilian harmonies and rhythms has been delighting audiences in both the U.S. and Brazil since 2014. This performance is part of the group’s third U.S. tour since 2015.
Since 1981, the St. Charles Public Library has featured a wide variety of musical performances. The public is invited and the concerts are free to attend. St. Charles Public Library Sunday Concerts Series
The Sunday Concert series feature a variety of local performers for your listening pleasure. This year’s series includes alternating classical and popular music. Questions? Contact Denise Blaszynski at 630-584-0076, Ext. 240.
The performances are all at 2 p.m. in the Carnegie Community Room. Seating is limited for this free concert series. Doors will open 20 minutes prior to each performance.
Sept. 24 — ■ Choro de La pra Ca — This trio is comprised of U.S. flutist, Julie Koidin and Brazilian musicians, Diogo Guanabar (mandolin, cavaquinho and guitar), and Caio Padilha (guitar, rabeca, and vocals).
Oct. 8 — ■ Don Stille and Daniela Bisenius — Grammy-nominated musician Don Stille and Romanian-born virtuoso violinist, Daniela Bisenius, will perform “Gypsy Jazz and More,” a very unique and eclectic blend of high energy Gypsy Jazz, Gypsy Swing, Jazz interpretations of American Songbook Standards and established Jazz Standards, Latin Jazz, Classic Tango and Tango Nuevo.
Oct. 22— ■ Trio Brava — an ensemble of flute, oboe and piano, perform a unique blend of sounds of chamber music with a classical crossover into other genres.
Nov. 12 — ■ Jim Green creates relaxing to percussively driven solo finger-style acoustic guitar instrumentals in a fresh and compelling way utilizing unusual guitar tunings while incorporating percussive rhythms, harmonics, and finger-tapping with a piano-like approach.
