WHAT’S MORE POWERFUL THAN A SUPERHERO?: a St. Charles Public Library card

If you haven’t been to your local library recently, now is the time to visit. In September, the St. Charles Public Library is joining libraries across the country to celebrate Library Card Sign-Up Month. This year, the library has a little help spreading the message throughout the community: Joe Cool and other super heroes.

Visit the Library during the month of September for a chance to enter the drawing for a Fitbit Charge 2. Simply apply for a new library card, or show your current St. Charles card at the Circulation or ASK ME Desk, to be eligible for a chance to win. Two winners will be chosen.

This month while at the library, strike a post at our “Superhero” selfie stops. Grab a cape, pick a prop and snap a photo at our displays on the main floor or lower level. Adults and students, who come to the library in a super hero costume or t-shirt, can receive a cool super hero giveaway.

Be on the lookout for Joe “Super” Cool and other heroes in the community.  They will be making various appearances throughout our library district to spread the word about the power of having a library card.

Library Card Sign-up Month is a celebration held each September during which librarians across the country remind families that a library card is the most important school supply of all. In addition to books, eBooks, magazines, CDs and DVDs, computers, games, software and other multimedia materials, a library card provides access to programs, homework assistance, resume and job search help, and online adult education courses and much more. Getting a Library card is easy. Simply visit our location and provide two forms of identification (including at least one photo ID) showing your current residency within the St. Charles Public Library District. Children under 18 must have the signature of a parent or legal guardian.

Part of a nationwide initiative, Library Card Sign-Up Month is a way to encourage residents to shop locally and a reminder for them to use their library card.
