Can you guess the Aurora intersections with the most crashes so far this year?

If you said Eola Road at the intersection of Indian Trail/North Aurora Road, you’d be right. And wrong.

That intersection actually is tied with New York Street and IL Route 59, according to statistics published on the Aurora Police Department Facebook page. Both intersections have seen 48 accidents so far this year.

Because of two ties, the tally of most-dangerous intersections that you see below actually is a “top 10” list.

Intersections with the most crashes through Sept. 30 (and the number of crashes):

1. (tie) Eola and Indian Trail/North Aurora Road; and New York and IL Route 59 (48)
2. Indian Trail and Lake (40)
3. Butterfield/IL Route 56 and Eola (39)
4. Ogden/IL Route 34 and IL Route 59 (38)
5. Eola and New York (36)
   
6. Galena and Orchard (35)
   
7. Eola and Liberty (34)
8. (tie) Montgomery and IL Rotue 59; and IL Route 59 and 75th Street (33)

One recent, high profile crash took place earlier this week, when a semi truck was hit by two vehicles that police and Sheriff’s Office officials believe might have been involved in gang-related shooting incidents. That crash took place Monday at the intersection of Orchard Road and the north exit ramp on Interstate 88.
