Big Rains: Impressive 24-Hour Precip Totals For Kane County

Sugar Grove and Algonquin were deluged in the soaking rains that hit yesterday and today (Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2017).

In fact, three of the top 10 rain totals for the area were in those two Kane County towns.

But others weren’t far behind, as Elburn, Aurora and Geneva all tallied more than 2 inches of rain as of observations made between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. today.

The following are 24-hour rain amounts as measured in the morning by NWS Cooperative Observers and CoCoRaHS observers.

Rochelle, as you can see by the list below, led the league to 2.8 inches of rain. But pretty much the entire area got at least an inch, and communities throughout Kane County received more than an inch and a half.

The rain was sorely needed, as Illinois had been in the midst of a drought prior to the drenching.
