Aurora Appoints 14 Students To First-Ever Youth Council
On Tuesday, Nov. 14, the Aurora City Council approved the appointment of 14 local high school students to the new Aurora Youth Council.
An official board of the city, the Aurora Youth Council is comprised of students from Aurora high schools who will serve in an advisory capacity to Mayor Richard C. Irvin and city leadership on issues related Aurora’s youth population.
Members appointed include: Jyotsna Balmuri, junior at Metea Valley High School; Alonso Cisneros, senior at West Aurora High School; Amanda DuVall, junior at Rosary High School; Adolf Gerodia, sophomore at Kaneland High School; Ella Gonzales, junior at West Aurora High School; Alexa Jordan, senior at Metea Valley High School; Katherine Lopez, junior at the Illinois Math and Science Academic.
“I am so honored to be able to work with my peers from all over Aurora to help make our city even better,” said Cisneros who also serves as executive president of the West Aurora Student Government.
Also appointed were: Adam Pauly, sophomore at Aurora Central Catholic High School, Amogh Raula, senior at Waubonsie Valley High School; Albert Rios, senior at East Aurora High School; Juliana Salinas, junior at Oswego East High School; Ellen Sweeney, junior at Waubonsie Valley High School; Diego Terrazas, senior at East Aurora High School; and Shashank Vege, senior at Metea Valley High School
“The review committee was very impressed with the academic and community accomplishments of all our applicants,” stated Chief Innovation Officer Dr. Adrienne M. Holloway. “We were equally impressed with the topics they stated were important to them and their peers.”
Members of the Aurora Youth Council will meet monthly.
