Corron Farm Nominated For National Register of Historic Places
The Illinois Historic Sites Advisory Council has unanimously approved the National Register nomination for the historic Corron Farm in Campton Township. The final step in the process to place Corron Farm on the National Register of Historic Places will be approval by the National Park Service.
Erica Ruggiero of McGuire Igleski & Associates in Evanston prepared the extensive research and paperwork required for the nomination. Corron Farm is presently on the Kane County Register of Historic Places, having been settled by Robert Corron in 1835 and purchased from the Corron family by Campton Township in 2002
The main house, lovingly called the Old Brick, was built by Robert Corron between 1850 and 1854 from bricks kilned from clay on the property. The home contains 40 windows and 40 doors with thresholds and window lintels quarried in Batavia.
In addition, Corron Farm Preservation Society and Campton Township announced this week that the historic 1875 dairy barn roof has finally been replaced after a stabilization of the structure was completed by Trillium Dell Timberworks of Knoxville, IL.
Funds raised by the Preservation Society, matched by the township, plus an additional sum awarded by a Kane County Grand Victoria Riverboat Fund grant, were used to pay for the project. Additional funds need to be raised by the society to fulfill their promise to the township to contribute 50 percent of the cost of the roof.
On Sunday, Nov. 12, 2017, the Corron Farm Preservation Society will host a Meat Raffle and Chili Cook-off Fundraiser from 11:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. at The Lodge on IL Route 64, 41W369 Route 64, Wasco, IL, 60175. The event will feature a meat raffle with choice meats ranging from ribs, roasts, steaks, burgers, hams, etc.
This event is open to the public. Full service bar and The Lodge’s famous Rotisserie Chicken dinner will be available for purchase.
To enter into the chili cook-off, call Rhonda at 224-629-0369. Suggested donation for chili tasting and baked potato bar is $5 with a $20 cap per family. Proceeds from this event will go toward continued rehabilitation of the 1875 Corron Farm Dairy Barn.
In 2011, the Corron Farm Preservation Society (an Illinois 501(c)(3) was formed by concerned Campton Township citizens to help raise funds to rehabilitate the dairy barn and manage the many artifacts owned by the Corron family. The mission of the society is to preserve, increase, and enrich the knowledge of the history of Corron Farm and early Campton Township.
