When Are Libraries Closed, Open For Thanksgiving Weekend?

Who doesn’t love a library? All of Kane County libraries are wonderful places to spend time, especially on your day off.

But are Kane County libraries open or closed during the upcoming Thanksgiving weekend? When can you drop in for a book, magazine, computer or cup of coffee?

While most are closed Thanksgiving Day, some are closed for both Thanksgiving Day and the day after. Some close a little early on the Wednesday prior to Thanksgiving. And a few have multiple days off.

Here’s a look at the information provided on the websites of each library that serves portions of Kane County:

Algonquin Area Public Library District

Nov. 22, Thanksgiving Eve Close at 5 p.m.
Nov. 23 —Thanksgiving Day closed.

Aurora Public Library

Closed Thanksgiving Day, open on Friday.

Barrington Area Library:

Closed Thanksgiving Day, open on Friday.

Bartlett Public Library

Closed Thanksgiving Day, open on Friday.

Batavia Public Library

Wednesday, Nov. 22 — closed at 5 p.m.
Thursday, Nov. 23 — closed
Friday, Nov. 24 — open

Big Rock Public Library

Hours:

Mondays 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Thursdays 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. (But Closed on Thanksgiving and Other Holidays)
Saturdays 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Elgin Community College Library

Thanksgiving Recess: 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22 – Sunday, Nov. 26

Ella Johnson Memorial Public Library

Closed Thanksgiving Day, open Friday after.

Fox River Valley Libraries

Wednesday, Nov. 22 — closed at 5 p.m.
Thursday, Nov. 23 — closed
Friday, Nov. 24 — open 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (Dundee) / 5 p.m. Randall Oaks
