There are scores of Kane County high school athletes who go on to play at some level of college each year, but for a small school like Rosary in Aurora to have eight students sign letters of intent in one class is something pretty special.

Eight Rosary athletes in the Class of 2018 have committed to continue their sport at the college level, signing National Letters of Intent at a Nov. 8 ceremony in the library.

• Mackenzie Adkins of Geneva, daughter of Jacqueline and Douglas Adkins, will swim for the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado.
• Brooke Delahanty of Sugar Grove, daughter of Katie and Ryan Delahanty, will run cross country and track for the Univ. of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign.
• Claire Hengesbaugh of St. Charles, daughter of Tamera and Doug Hengesbaugh, will run cross country and track for Loyola University in Chicago.
• Julianne Hutchison of Aurora, daughter of Jean and Jeffrey Hutchison, will play soccer for Jacksonville University in Jacksonville, Florida.
• Samantha Laurich of Yorkville, daughter of Julie and Marty Laurich, will swim for Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan.
• Camryn Streid of Elburn, daughter of Robbyn and Gene Streid, will swim for the University of Cincinnati in Ohio.
• Maya Sullivan of Montgomery, daughter of Lillie and Mark Sullivan, will play volleyball for the Univ. of Miami in Coral Cable, Florida.
• Maura VanBogaert of Elburn, daughter of Gail and Phil VanBogaert, will play softball for Franciscan University of Steubenville in Steubenville, Ohio.

Rosary offers nine competitive sports as well as a dance team and Marmion Academy’s cheerleading squad.

Eighty-two percent of Rosary students participate in athletics; 153 students compete in one sport, 47 students compete in two sports, and five students compete in three sports (2016-17). In addition, 82 percent of Rosary`s athletes are Scholar Athletes with an average GPA of 3.39 (2016-17).
