The Aurora Police Department is investigating a single-vehicle crash that occurred late Saturday night (Dec. 2) on the Far West Side and claimed the life of a 22-year-old Chicago man.
Around 10:30 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to the area of West Indian Trail and Deerpath Road, where they located the man, Brian Dorantes of the 2000 block of North La Crosse Avenue, partially ejected from his 2003 Acura RSX.
According to witnesses, Dorantes, the sole occupant of his vehicle, was westbound on Indian Trail traveling at a very high rate of speed. When he approached the intersection with Deerpath, he moved to the eastbound lanes of Indian Trail, disregarded the stop sign and traveled through the intersection, police said.
His car briefly became airborne, and when it landed, his vehicle slid to the right, leaving the roadway and colliding with two trees on the north side of the street.
Dorantes was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:47 p.m. There were no preliminary signs of alcohol or drug use.
The Kane County Coroner’s Office will not be performing a full autopsy on Dorantes but will be taking toxicology samples.
The Aurora Police Traffic Division is handling the investigation. They were assisted on-scene by members of the Aurora Emergency Management Agency.
