A 74-year-old St. Charles man was able to walk away without injury after crashing his home-built plane in Plato Township.

According to a report from the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, David Weaver of St. Charles attempted to land his Pulsar 912XP experimental, home built airplane at around 5 p.m. Saturday at Olson Airport in Plato Township.

“When he came in for his landing, he advised there was an issue with lighting, causing him to misjudge his approach,” said Pat Gengler, Kane County Sheriff’s Office director of administration.

The plane crashed through a wooden fence surrounding a horse pasture and came to rest on its belly in the pasture, southeast of the landing strip, the news release said.

Weaver, who was the sole occupant of the plane, was uninjured.
