Three Kane County Sears stores are doing well and are not part of Sears Holdings’ recent announcement to close more than 100 stores.

According to a Sears Holdings online news release, the company informed associates on Thursday (Jan. 4, 2018) that it will close 64 Kmart stores and 39 Sears stores between early March and early April 2018.

“Sears Holdings continues its strategic assessment of the productivity of our Kmart and Sears store base and will continue to right size our store footprint in number and size,” the company said in the news release. “In the process, as previously announced, we will continue to close some unprofitable stores as we transform our business model.”

Eligible associates impacted by these store closures will receive severance and will have the opportunity to apply for open positions at area Kmart or Sears stores.

Customers can use the store locator function on Sears and Kmart websites to find the location of their nearest Kmart and Sears stores. Liquidation sales will begin as early as Jan. 12 at the stores that are closing.

Kane County Sears stores include stores and auto centers in West Dundee, Batavia and Aurora.

Holly Deitchman, president and CEO of the Batavia Chamber of Commerce, pointed out that the Batavia Sears hardware store is a franchise and would not be under the gun for a store closing.
