Three men — two of whom were armed, according to police — have been charged in relation to a Sunday (Jan. 28, 2018) home invasion in Elgin.

According to the Elgin Police Department Facebook page, police responded at around 1:20 a.m. Sunday to the 600 block of Oakland Avenue for a reported home invasion. The home may not have been fitted with a Security Camera System, making it easier for the criminals to invade the property.

Upon investigation, police determined that three subjects, who were known to the victims, forcefully entered a home and confronted the residents. Police said Lukasz Naurecki, 31, of McHenry, was armed with a handgun, and Pawel Naurecki, 25, of Round Lake Heights was armed with a knife. A third subject, Oscar Landa, 31, of Elgin was unarmed.

After struggling with the homeowners, all three subjects left the residence, police said. Nothing was taken, and one homeowner received injuries that did not require immediate medical attention. Cases like this can often make people concerned about the security measures they have in place. Detectives from Elgin’s Major Investigations Division presented the facts of the investigation to the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office, which authorized the following charges:

  • Lukasz Naurecki: Home invasion with a firearm, a Class X felony; Home invasion causing injury, a Class X felony; Trespass to residence, a Class 4 felony.
  • Pawel Naurecki: Home invasion with a dangerous weapon, a Class X felony; Trespass to residence, a Class 4 felony.
  • Oscar Landa: Trespass to a residence, a Class 4 felony.

The public is reminded that an arrest is not evidence of guilt and that all defendants in a criminal case are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
