UPDATE: How To Recycle Your Christmas Tree in 21 Kane Communities
OK, it’s the new year. Are you ready to get that Christmas tree out on the curb?
If so, you’re probably wondering when, where and how the pickup will happen in your town. For your convenience, here’s a rundown of Christmas-tree collection times in 21 Kane County municipalities and townships.

Algonquin
Groot will collect Christmas trees in January for residential customers
Groot will collect Christmas trees at no charge on your normal collection day throughout the month of January, on your scheduled collection day.
In order for a tree to be collected, it must be placed at the curb or the end of your driveway by 7 a.m. on your scheduled collection day. All lights and decorations must be removed. Trees should not be placed in plastic bags, and any trees over six (6) feet tall should be cut in half so one person can handle them. Also, trees should be placed on top of the snow. Trees buried under snow may result in Groot not collecting them.

Aurora
Christmas tree pickup for two weeks in January for residential customers
Christmas trees in Aurora will be picked up for free during weekly trash and recycling collection.
Collection takes place for two weeks, from Monday, Jan. 8, through Friday, Jan. 19. No sticker is required for collection.
To be properly recycled, trees must be free of plastic bags, all decorations (including tinsel) and tree stands, and be placed at the curb by 6 a.m. on the normal collection day.
Please note that due to the wire used to form them, wreaths and garlands will not be collected as recycling and must be stickered as trash.
After the normal collection day during the week of Jan.15, trees left at the curb must be stickered in order to be collected.
Batavia
As part of the city of Batavia’s refuse contract, Advanced Disposal will be picking up live Christmas trees on residents’ regular collection dates. Residents do not have to use a sticker for Christmas tree removal on these dates only.
After these dates, residents should attach a refuse sticker to the tree and place it at the curb on their regular collection date. All materials such as plastic bags, ornaments, lights, nails, etc. should be removed from the trees. Live wreaths and garland should be placed in your regular refuse. Please use the following schedule:
South Side (Wilson to the south between Kirk/Randall):
- Thursday, Jan. 4
- Wednesday, Jan. 10
North Side (north of Wilson to Fabyan between Kirk/Randall):
- Friday, Jan. 5
- Thursday, Jan. 11
Far West Side (Randall west to City limits):
- Saturaday, Jan. 6
- Friday, Jan. 12
Campton Township
Christmas Tree Recycling. Christmas tree collection will run for two weeks starting the last week of December. All trees picked up during this time will be recycled and composted by the waste hauler. Residents will not need to affix a yard waste sticker to the trees during this time.
Christmas trees must be free of all decorations and cannot be in plastic bags. If tree is longer than 6 feet, it must be cut in half.
Dundee Township
Dundee Township Highway Commission recycles trees.
Bring your tree (all decorations removed) to the Township Garage at 1900 Sleepy Hollow Road (at IL Route 72), through Jan. 15, 2018. The trees can be dropped off any time. There are signs showing where to drop them off.
Dundee Township does not pick up any trees and the trees have to have all decorations removed. Call Highway Commissioner Scott Sinnett at 847-426-0898 for more information.
East Dundee
Christmas Tree Collection First Two Weeks
Holiday greenery collection is FREE the FIRST TWO WEEKS in January. Holiday greenery must have all tinsel, ornaments, lights and nails removed before being placed out at the curb for pick-up and cannot be placed in plastic bags.
Elburn
Christmas Trees will be collected from Christmas through the end of January at no additional charge if left at the curb. All ornaments, tinsel, and lights must be removed prior to disposal.
Elgin
Christmas Trees will be collected Dec. 26 through Jan. 13 from all residential households. Stickers are not required for Christmas trees during this period.
All decorations, stands, etc. must be removed from trees in order to be collected. Do not place trees in plastic bags. Trees in plastic bags will not be collected. After January 16, each Christmas Tree will require one visibly affixed refuse sticker to be collected.
Yard waste collection services (except Christmas Trees), are not provided to condominium and townhome units.
Geneva
The Public Works Department has scheduled a citywide collection of discarded live Christmas trees for a two week period in January 2018.
Live Christmas trees will be collected the week of Jan. 1, 2018 and the week of Jan. 8, 2018 by the city’s refuse collection company.
All live Christmas trees will be collected at the curb on your SCHEDULED REFUSE COLLECTION DAY.
Residents must place the tree at the edge of pavement or near the curb for collection no later than 7 a.m. on their scheduled refuse collection day.
In order to ensure the timeliness and the integrity of the schedule, crews will not return for special pickups. Once the street has been completed, trees will not be collected until the following week.
Please remove all hard materials, ornaments, nails, stands, etc. from the trees.
NO REFUSE STICKER WILL BE REQUIRED FOR THIS SERVICE.
All wreaths and roping must be placed out with normal trash on your scheduled refuse collection day.

Huntley
Bring your tree to Sun Valley Farm at Betsey Warrington Park, free of tinsel and decorations, by Jan. 31, 2018.
The trees will be used as mulch in Huntley parks!
Please note: The Park District no longer provides curb side pick-up. There is no charge for this service.
MDC Environmental Services: For all residential areas in the village, excluding Sun City and apartments, MDC Environmental Services will be picking up discarded trees on Tuesday, Jan. 2, and Monday, Jan. 8. Simply place your tree at the curb.
Trees larger than 10 feet tall must be cut in half. Please note that trees will not be recycled and will be taken to the landfill. Tinsel and decorations need not be removed.
There is no charge for this service.
Waste Management: In Sun City, Waste Management provides pick-up of Christmas trees during the month of January. Tinsel and decorations need not be removed as these trees will be discarded in the landfill with other waste. Trees may be a maximum of 6 feet tall. There is no charge for this service.
Gilberts
The village of Gilberts’ Waste Hauler (MDC) shall pickup discarded Christmas trees place on the curbside on the resident’s normal pickup day after the Christmas holidays until Jan. 31.
Maple Park
Christmas trees will be picked up on the resident’s service day beginning after Dec. 28. Pickup will continue through the month of January.
Trees must be free of all decorations. Trees must not be in plastic bags.

Mill Creek
Advanced Disposal shall pickup discarded Christmas trees free of charge for the first two full weeks of January. Trees should be placed on the curb free of all lights, garland, tinsel and decorations in order to be composted.
Montgomery
DC Trash will collect live Christmas trees for disposal on all regular collection days throughout the month of January. Trees must be free of plastic bags, all decorations (including tinsel) and tree stands, and be placed at the curb by 6 a.m. on your normal collection day. No stickers are required.
North Aurora
Christmas trees will be collected through January at no charge to residents. During this free period the Christmas trees must be free of all decorations and cannot be in plastic bags. Christmas trees over 6 feet tall need to be cut in half. After the free collection period has expired, Christmas trees will require one trash sticker visibly affixed in order to be collected.
South Elgin
As a service to residents Allied Waste/Republic Services will pick up Christmas trees beginning Jan. 3 through Jan, 17, 2018, on normally scheduled refuse days. All decorations should be removed before placing the tree at curbside.
St. Charles
Pingree Grove
Christmas tree pickup is offered the first three collections in January, after that the tree will be picked up but will be counted as a bulk item. Collections are on a three-day schedule so check for your neighborhood pickup date.
Sugar Grove
Christmas trees will be picked up through the last refuse pick up in January. Must be free of all decorations (including tinsel). Flocked Trees are not accepted. Trees cannot be in plastic bags. If larger than 6 feet, the trees must be cut into pieces no longer than 6 feet.
West Dundee
Free Christmas tree collections are scheduled for those households receiving regular refuse collection within the village.
Trees need to be stripped of all decorations and placed at the curb with the cut end facing the street. Trees do not have to be cut up, bundled or placed in yard waste bags.
Trees in plastic bags or wrapped in plastic will not be accepted. In addition, trees or greenery covered with artificial snow cannot be accepted. Garlands and wreaths must be disassembled. The organic portion should be placed in a yard waste bag while the rest is discarded as refuse.
If you live in a building with more than three units, contact your building owner or refuse hauler regarding the disposal of your tree, or recycle it (see above).
