Kane County Clerk’s Office Hosts ‘Passport Day’ Saturday, Feb. 3
The state of Illinois is still working on getting driver’s licenses into compliance as federal REAL ID for air travel.
That means your best bet for air travel identification is still a passport. With folks starting to think about spring break vacations and travel options, now’s a really good time to get your passport or get your present passport updated.
To make it a little easier, the Kane County Clerk’s Office is holding “Passport Day” from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, at the Kane County Clerk’s Office, Building B, Kane County Government Center, 719 S. Batavia Ave., Geneva.

You can apply at an Illinois passport acceptance facility for regular or expedited service. Be aware that many offices require an appointment so call before visiting. The list below will help you find the Illinois passport office nearest you.
There are more than 30 Chicago passport offices which is by far the most of any city in Illinois. If no acceptance facility is can be located where you reside, check a neighboring city or town. If you need to travel within two weeks, you will most likely need to apply at the regional agency in Chicago.
About REAL ID
Illinois has an extension for REAL ID enforcement, allowing federal agencies to accept driver’s licenses and identification cards from Illinois at Federal facilities, nuclear power plants and federally regulated commercial aircraft until Oct. 10, 2018.
Secure driver’s licenses and identification documents are a vital component of a holistic national security strategy. Law enforcement must be able to rely on government-issued identification documents and know that the bearer of such a document is who he or she claims to be. REAL ID is a coordinated effort by the states and the Federal Government to improve the reliability and accuracy of state-issued identification documents, which should inhibit terrorists’ ability to evade detection by using fraudulent identification.
