UPDATE: Aurora Man Dies In Single-Car Crash on Heggs Road Near Route 30

The Aurora Police Department is reporting a single-car fatal crash at around 6:07 p.m. Thursday (Jan. 25, 2018) at Heggs Road about 500 feet north of IL Route 30.

According to reports, a southbound 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe driven by Joseph Smith, 34, of Aurora crossed into the northbound lanes of Heggs Road for an unknown reason, then struck a large tree east of the roadway.

Smith had to be extricated by Aurora Fire Department personnel. He was taken by paramedics to an Aurora hospital, where he was pronounced deceased at 7:28 p.m. Smith was the only occupant of the vehicle.

“Our Traffic Division is continuing to investigate the single-vehicle, fatal crash,” Aurora Police Department spokesman Dan Ferrelli said.

 

Heggs was shut down between Route 30 and Bednarcik School, 3025 Heggs Road, until 11 p.m. Thursday, while Aurora’s Traffic Division personnel conducted their preliminary investigation. The cause of the crash is not yet known.

Volunteers from Aurora’s Emergency Management Division assisted at the scene.
