Aurora Police: Good Things Happen When Suspicious Activity Is Report To 911

Around 11 a.m. Tuesday (Feb. 6, 2018), the Aurora Police Department received a call from a concerned resident who described a suspicious male in the area of Melrose and Lebanon who was jumping fences and going onto rear patios. Using information supplied by the caller, one of the responding officers found fresh footprints in the snow, which he followed to the back of a home with an open window in the 1200 block of Lebanon in Montgomery.
Other officers arrived to the burglary in progress, including a K-9 unit, and took positions around the home.
Shortly thereafter, a 16-year-old boy who did not live at the house looked out the open window and seeing the presence of a loudly barking Kato the K-9, thought it best to comply with the demands of the officers to exit the residence. He was taken into custody without incident and turned over to Montgomery police.
Kato’s barking also caught the attention of a 30-year-old man who lives in the home. In fact, the barking woke him out of a sound sleep. There were no injuries.
“Kudos to the citizen who called 911 and the officers for their quick response even though it was out of our jurisdiction,” Dan Ferrelli said on the APD’s Facebook page. “We can never say too many times how important it is to immediately call 911 if you see anything suspicious happening in your neighborhood. It is also a good idea, if possible, to snap a photo or video with your cell phone of the suspicious persons or activity.”
