A West Chicago man has been charged in relation to the Dec. 27 armed robbery of a St. Charles Domino’s Pizza.

On Tuesday (Jan. 30, 2018), after a joint investigation by detectives from the St. Charles Police Department and the West Chicago Police Department, police arrested Jonah A. De Leon, 19, of the 600 block of South Neltnor Boulevard, West Chicago, on charges of armed robbery (Class X felony), and aggravated robbery (Class 1 felony).

According to a St. Charles Police Department news release, officers responded at around 12:17 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, to a report of an armed robbery at Domino’s Pizza, 1450 W. Main St. Employees reported the offender entered the front door, displayed a black handgun and demanded cash.

An employee handed over the cash as well as a cell phone.

The offender fled west toward North 15^th Street on foot. Officers checked the area, and a K9 from the Aurora Police Department responded to assist. The offender was not located.

De Leon was taken into custody Tuesday after a search warrant was executed on his residence and vehicle, police said. During the search, officers located items of evidence that linked De Leon to the Domino’s robbery.

Police said the investigation was helped by members of the public who called in tips after seeing surveillance photos of the crime that had been posted on social media by both agencies.

St. Charles and West Chicago police departments had offered a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspect they believed to have committed two armed robberies in the area Dec. 27, 2017 — one at the St. Charles Domino’s, the other at Thornton’s gas station at 1330 S. Neltnor Boulevard in West Chicago.
