All eyes might be on the Winter Olympics on Thursday, Feb. 8, in PyeongChang, South Korea, but that day and date is important for another reason here in Kane County, IL.

It’s the first day of early voting for the March 20 primary.

The March primary includes Democratic and Republican ballots for all of Illinois’ 18 seats in the United States House of Representatives, state races including the race for Illinois governor and local races including county clerk, sheriff, treasurer, regional superintendent of schools, the odd-numbered County Board seats and precinct committeemen. Local referendums will be on the primary ballots, as well.

You can see a list of candidates by clicking on the Kane County Clerk’s Office’s kanecountyelections.org website.

Early voting allows voters to cast a full ballot before the observed election day.

“Although voters can still go to their polling place on Election Day, this is intended to make voting easier for everyone,” the Kane County Clerk’s Office says on its website. “This cuts down on lines at the polling place as well as allowing voters to vote when it fits their schedule.”

The period for early voting by personal appearance begins on the 40th day preceding an election, on Feb. 8, 2018, ONLY AT THE KANE COUNTY CLERK’S OFFICE, and extends through the end of the day before election day.

Early voting at early permanent polling places and other early voting locations, begins on the 15th day preceding an election, on March 5, 2018, and extends through the end of day before election day. You may go to any one of these locations to vote early. Early voting is NOT conducted at your usual polling place. Polling places will only be open for voting on the observed Election Day. Click here for exact dates, times, and locations for early voting.

The ballot is the same whether voting absentee, early or at the polling place on election day.

Aurora Election Commission

The Aurora Election Commission has announced the early voting location dates and times for the General Primary Election on March 20, 2018.

Voters can cast a ballot prior to the Election Day without offering a reason or an excuse for wanting to vote early.

The law prohibits a person who voted during the early voting period from voting at the polls on Election Day. The vote cast during the early voting time period will not be counted until after the polls close on Election Day.

Vote by Mail (formally Absentee Voting) voting laws remain in place. Voters can still vote a mailed ballot as required under law.

Early Voting is conducted at the Aurora Election Commission’s office and the Philips Park Stover Visitor Center (see below for specific dates and times). Please check your Voter Registration Card to identify your voting districts. You must live within the City of Aurora (Kane, Kendall, or Will portion of Aurora only) in order to vote at these locations. Pursuant to SB0172, ID is not required to Early Vote at this election.
