Elgin Fire Department Honors Citizens, Firefighters at Feb. 23 Recognition Ceremony
The Elgin Fire Department will recognize several citizens along with members of the department for significant accomplishments throughout the past year during a special recognition ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 23, 2018, in the Grand Ballroom at the Grand Victoria Casino, 250 S. Grove Avenue, Elgin.
More than a dozen citizens will be recognized for outstanding contributions to the mission of the Elgin Fire Department. Elgin Fire Chief Dave Schmidt will present citizens with the Elgin Fire Department Chief’s Appreciation Award as well as the Elgin Fire Department Citizens Life Saving Award.
Members of the Elgin Fire Department will be recognized for emergency scene exemplary performance with the company award. There will also be the presentation of three Medal of Merit awards.
This will be the third year for the Elgin Fire Department “Phoenix” award, which will recognize companies that revived a patient in full cardio-respiratory arrest and the patient survived to be discharged from the hospital.
This year was an exceptional year for the “Phoenix” Award. Nine patients in Elgin that were in full cardiac arrest survived to be discharged from the hospital in 2017.
The evening will also recognize department members for long term service to special teams and functions within the department.
