Geneva Conducts Parkway Tree Inventory For First Time in 18 Years
A city of Geneva contractor will be performing a comprehensive parkway tree inventory throughout Geneva for the first time in 18 years
The inventory is expected to go on for the next several months.
The past several years have not been easy ones for parkway trees in communities throughout Kane County. Just as one example, the city had to remove more than 2,700 of the 2,800 infected parkway ash trees for the past several years due to the infestation of the Emerald Ash Borer.
Beginning in late February, residents may see Graf Tree Care, Inc. crews walking through the parkways counting and evaluating the health of the city’s parkway trees. The company will be putting together a management plan for the city that addresses both short and long-term care for the parkway trees.
The inventory study also will pinpoint potential opportunities to plant new parkway trees.
All Graf crew members will be carrying identification with them as they inspect the trees. The inventory is expected to be completed by the end of May.
The previous tree inventory was completed in 2000 before the Fischer Farms and Sunset Prairie subdivisions were built.
The Geneva City Council approved the tree inventory at its Feb. 20 meeting.
