‘Wow’ Snow Totals: 9 Straight Days of Snowfall, 18.3 Inches
Well, the big snow is over, at least for now.
The next big question is: What happens when all this stuff melts?
The National Weather Service Chicago is predicting temperatures of near 40 degrees on Wednesday and Thursday this week. So you can expect to see those big piles around your driveway and mailbox go down, and Fox River levels go up this week.
In the meantime, let’s revel in the snow we got this past week. It was a big dump, for sure, with Chicago recording 18.3 inches of snow during the nine-day stretch from Feb. 3 to Feb. 11.
That nine-day snow event ties a record for consecutive days of measurable snow — a tie with records set in 2009 and 1902.
The National Weather Service Chicago is making us work for snow totals in Kane County — providing totals for three snow events and actually forcing us to use addition to come up with the totals for various communities.
Very unofficially (since there’s math involved), here are the top five Kane County snow totals for the three snow events of Feb. 5, Feb. 8-9 and Feb. 11:
