8 Kane County Students Set to Compete for Spot in National Spelling Bee

Even with the increased use of autocorrect, the Spelling Bee stands strong as one of our nation’s oldest and most iconic competitions since 1925.

In the past several months, thousands of Kane County students have participated in local spelling bees for the opportunity to compete at the national level.

Eight students from Kane County area schools have qualified to compete in the Kane County Spelling Bee Final for a spot in the Scripp’s National Spelling Bee.

The Kane County final will take place at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, at the Kane County Regional Office of Education,  28 N First Street, Geneva, IL.

Sponsored by the Dunham Fund and the Kane Excellence in Education Partnership, the winner and their family will be flown to Washington, D.C., to compete in the National Spelling Bee from May 27 to June 1, 2018. During the week, they will tour the United States Capitol, enjoy an awards banquet, and join the competition for a chance to be crowned the 91st champion of the National Spelling Bee.
