Power has been restored to all 5,400 Geneva customers who lost power today (Monday, March 19, 2018), the city of Geneva said.

Commonwealth Edison had dropped power to three of the city of Geneva’s five electric substations on Geneva’s west side, including the Keslinger Road, Western Avenue and South Street sites, at around 9:22 a.m.

The initial outage impacted many customers from the Fox River west to Randall Road. The problem area was narrowed to the Keslinger Road, Western Avenue and South Street substations. Geneva Public Works Department crews mobilized and began re-routing impacted customers to other operational substations in the city.

More than 3,000 customers had serviced restored in 22 minutes or less, thanks to the quick work of Public Works Department, city officials said.

The Kane County Government Center was without electricity for a little less than an hour.

Keslinger Substation

Total – 1,938 customers

• 673 – 4 minutes
• 664 – 6 minutes
• 601 – 12 minutes

South Street Substation

Total – 2,172 customers

• 941 – 17 minutes
• 218 – 22 minutes
• 1,013 – 37 minutes

Western Avenue Substation

Total – 1,298 customers

• 401 – 57 minutes
• 116 – 59 minutes
• 781 – 65 minutes

“Geneva Public Works is working with ComEd to pinpoint what caused the utility’s power supply to stop feeding the city’s substations,” officials said. “An exact cause has not been determined as of March 19.”
