Grow Healthier Trees! Space Limited For March 7 Regional Workshop
The Chicago Region Trees Initiative, a collaboration working toward a goal of healthier, more diverse trees in the Chicago Region, has a series of workshops planned in 2018 to help forestry and landscaping professionals plan, plant, and grow healthier trees.
The series kicks off with a workshop on March 7 in Bolingbrook on “Achieving Species Diversity.”
Attendees will learn why species diversity is vital, how to choose the right species for their sites, what resources can help find those species, and what other foresters and land managers in the region are planting.
This first session has a limited capacity at 35 people, so be sure to register soon! International Society of Arboriculture continuing education credits will be available pending approval.
Other workshops in this quarterly series will include a Nursery Tour, Research-based Tree Care, and a Landscape Approach to Trees with Gerry Wilhelm. All sessions are free and will meet in different locations around the seven county region.

Chicago’s regional forest is a critical asset that needs our protection. Trees clean our air and water, reduce flooding, improve our property values, create habitat for wildlife, and provide significant social and health benefits. In short, trees improve our quality of life.
But our trees need our help. They face threats such as invasive plants, including buckthorn and honeysuckle; the death of ash trees due to emerald ash borer; and a lack of funding for proper tree care. These issues are having significant impacts on the health and survival of our regional forest.
The Chicago Region Trees Initiative is a partnership for coordinated action on key issues facing trees. It is the largest such initiative in the country, with leading organizations and agencies from across the seven-county metropolitan region working together. CRTI is leveraging funding, knowledge, skills, and expertise to build a healthier, more diverse regional forest.
