1 Killed in Fiery Car Crash on Burlington Road

The driver of a Ford Mustang was killed Monday (April 2, 2018) when his car crashed on Burlington Road south of the village of Burlington.

According to the initial report from the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, the Mustang was traveling west on Burlington Road going into a curve when the vehicle crossed into the eastbound lane of traffic.

The vehicle then left the roadway, where it struck a wood fence, then rolled over and struck a large tree, according to reports. The vehicle came to a rest against the tree where it caught fire.

The driver, believed to be an adult male, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Due to the injures resulting from the fire, a positive identification of the driver was not made.

The Kane County Coroner’s Office took possession of the deceased and is working toward making a positive identification. The driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

The crash remains under investigation and detectives have not determined if speed, distracted driving, drugs or alcohol played a role.

Burlington Road was closed between the south end of the village of Burlington and Romke Road until about 2 a.m. today, while the crash was being investigated.
