UPDATE: Aurora Man Charged With Killing His Wife, Attempting Suicide

The Aurora Police Department has secured a first-degree murder charge through the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office on a 56-year-old Aurora man who allegedly killed his wife and then tried to take his own life Thursday afternoon, April 26.
At around 4:20 p.m., police were called to the couple’s home in the 400 block of South Ohio Street on the Near East Side, after a relative found them suffering from apparent stab wounds.
Upon investigation, it was learned that the husband, Carlos Nunez, beat and choked his wife to death and then tried to take his own life by cutting his wrists and stabbing himself in the chest. His wife, Jovita Nunez, 55, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Carlos Nunez was taken by Aurora Fire Department paramedics to an Aurora hospital, where he remains under police guard. He is expected to survive his injuries.
The Kane County Coroner’s Office performed an autopsy and determined the preliminary cause of death as “strangulation and blunt force injuries of the head.”
Toxicology samples were collected during the autopsy and sent to a forensic laboratory.
The charge is not proof of guilt. Carlos Nunez is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which it is the burden of the State to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
