Coroner IDs Victim in March 22 Fatal Crash on Big Timber Road in Elgin

The Kane County Coroner’s Office has identified the woman killed March 22 in a crash on Big Timber Road in Elgin.

According to the Elgin Police Department, the crash took place at around 9:50 a.m. between Hillcrest Road and IL Route 31.

Police said a semi-trailer truck was eastbound when it was struck by a westbound van that crossed the center line on Big Timber Road in the area of Morningside Drive.

The 34-year-old driver of the van as taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where he was treated for injuries. His 24-year-old female passenger was taken to Advocate Sherman Hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.

The Kane County Coroner’s Office identified the passenger as Amanda Matthiessen of Volo, IL, following an autopsy on March 23. The preliminary cause of death was listed as “Multiple Injuries.” Toxicology samples were collected at the time of the autopsy and sent to a forensic laboratory.

Big Timber Road in the area of Morningside Drive was shut down in both directions from 10:14 a.m. to 2:40 p.m. Thursday, March 22.

The Kane County Coroner’s Office is cooperating with the Elgin Police Department in their ongoing investigation of this incident.
