POW! Ixnay on The Ogday (Schroeder Doesn’t Know He’s a Dog)
“All his life he tried to be a good person. Many times, however, he failed. For after all, he was only human. He wasn’t a dog.”
– Charles M. Schulz, Creator of Peanuts

Schroeder doesn’t know he’s a dog.
He doesn’t know he’s a 7-month-old long-haired Chihuahua-mix. All he knows is he lives for cuddles and as much loving as he can squeeze into any given day.
As he sits on my lap, he makes every attempt to walk across the keyboard, hitting every key possible. Perhaps it’s his way of telling me that he can tell his story better than I can. And I’m sure it’s quite a story.
As I put him down on his bed for his nap, I wonder how this sweet, attention-demanding little boy found himself running down the streets of Kane County all alone in the middle of February. Was it his naivety that kept him out of harm’s way? Or did the KCAC warden pick him up just in the nick of time?
Whatever the circumstances of his past situation, Schroeder is not a puppy that is easily ignored. His cuteness is like a magnet, drawing even the most stoic to want to cuddle him. As he makes his little puppy sounds, hearts melt and you vow to protect this little guy from the evils of the world for the rest of his life.
He seems fine with other dogs, but because he’s so small, he’s easily intimidated by larger dogs or dogs that seem interested in getting into his business. It’s being around people that Schroeder yearns for and looking for the right family that will guide him through the pitfalls and successes he still hasn’t experienced yet.
